Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

A few of you have asked me about seeing the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, so I'll give a little update. The morning started out somewhat hectic because I had to bring all my bags (luggage) with me to church, since I wouldn't have time to pick them up after church before catching the bus. This instantly made me look like a complete tool tourist, riding around the subways with my luggage and asking everyone for directions! But whatever, I was cool with it. Of course, there was some construction on the subway system that morning so I literally had to switch trains three times, and ask a million people how to get there. But I eventually made it safely and on time! I even had two different people help me with my luggage!
I cannot stress enough how amazing the choir is. I promise I'm not exaggerating that I literally got a small taste of what worship will be like when we get to heaven. I have been to many many churches in my life, and this was by far the most amazing worship service I have attended (well I take that back--I don't think it tops worship in Ethiopia).
The history behind the choir is pretty interesting too. Led by the pastor's wife who cannot read music and doesn't have a music background, the choir has won six Grammy Awards and has about 275 members. I personally liked it because they did sing some traditional hymns which I love, but you didn't feel like you were in a dusty old, stiff church. Even if you don't like going to church, I recommend going here if you are in NY just to hear the beautiful music...it's well worth the trip to Brooklyn.
